Brainwash Be Gone! | Break free of religious trauma as women leaving high demand religions [Deconstruction of spiritual abuse for Exvangelicals, Exmormons, Recovering Catholics, Former Jehovah’s Witnesses]
A podcast for women who’ve left high control, high demand religions. In every 15min episode, we deconstruct one specific rule you were taught, so you can let go of the harmful conditioning and live an amazing life on your own terms. Overcome spiritual abuse and religious trauma! Episodes drop on Sundays and Wednesdays.
If you’ve quit a high control group, high demand religion, or cult after suffering spiritual abuse and religious trauma, then YOU know, just like I know, how super frustrating it can be to realize that – although we’re physically free – that old psychological conditioning still echoes in our minds over and over, sometimes for years or even decades after leaving. This insidious training encouraged us to keep our true selves repressed, it told us we weren’t good enough, and stopped us from living authentically. Well, this podcast is about BUSTING OUT of that whole paradigm! So whether you’re an exvangelical, exmormon, recovering Catholic, former Jehovah’s witness or somethin’ else, welcome! Subscribe or follow so you don’t miss anything!

Brainwash Be Gone is a podcast for women who have left a high control, high demand religion.
What was this past year like for you? What was 2025 in your world? For many of you, especially if you officially left your former high control religion or cult this year, I know this may have been one of the most pivotal years of your life. With that, it may also have been one of the most challenging, stressful, and exhilarating years you have experienced.
Some of us have been out for years and years, and it is still an unfolding process of living life as a free person, doing what we choose to do with our lives. Whether you are new and this just happened, or you are years or even decades into the process, you are continually laying the groundwork for additional freedom for yourself. That is one of the most beautiful things we can do with our time.
I am continually reminded how long-term and layered healing from religious trauma can be. I left my religion over ten years ago and divorced about four years ago, which was another huge part of letting go for me.
Earlier this week, I became more triggered and angry than I have been in years over a religious trauma–based incident. I had subscribed to a company offering what appeared to be science-based psychological education. I am interested in topics like individuation and selfhood, and nothing I had seen suggested a religious component.
While reading one of their emails, it abruptly shifted from selfhood and personal growth to religious proselytizing, invoking Jesus without warning. I felt baited and manipulated, and I was furious.
What I realized is that I am accessing deeper layers of anger and self-protection. When someone tries to manipulate me without my consent, I now feel anger instead of minimizing or excusing it. That feels like progress.
This year, I am looking forward to exploring more layers of healing, including anger and whatever else may surface. Healing is not one and done, and it is also not true that we stay stuck in the worst phase forever. There are phases that feel better and better.
I wish for all of you that 2026 is the most incredible year of freedom in your life. You are your own person. You get to choose, create, and live on your own terms.
I am also feeling a growing need for community among those of us who share this experience. I will be organizing opportunities for connection, so stay tuned.
Happy New Year!
